Rainold Petersen, restaurant owner of Chaplin's Restaurant established in 1980 and located in Melville Johannesburg, decided to relive his passion of delivering a superior product, top class service and a hands-on approach offering a dining experience to likeminded people favouring a blend of urban grill with an International flavour.

In January 2012, Rainold changed The Local Grill in Hurlingham to Chaplin's Grill - bringing it closer to its primary market. In its current position in Hurlingham Manor, Chaplin's Grill with a large covered deck, and huge windows open to a panoramic view of the Sandton CBD.

The restaurant is family friendly with daily menu offerings at market related prices. We try to keep the menu natural, wholesome and with preservative-free ingredients.

Specialities include beef carpaccio; angel's hair pasta with prawns & pistachio pesto sauce, grilled mozzarella wrapped in baby marrow slices, fresh line fish, gourmet salads, vegetarian dishes, and freshly shucked oysters. Some signature dishes from the past - Prawn curry, rabbit, & duck should be of much delight to guests previously visiting Chaplins. Boutique wine estates are selected and showcased on our wine list. With his extensive knowledge of beer, whisky and wine, Rainold also offers appreciation events for corporates and private groups.

In keeping with the food concept, the decor of Chaplin's Grill is clean and simple lines, black and white mosaics, wooden floors and a school blackboard displaying the aged meat of the day. Chaplin's era movies on the terrace will enhance the entertaining atmosphere. An almost forgotten era, relived.
